On July 1, 2010 I was rolled into a Mexican operating room. I choose the duodenal switch procedure. I was a complicated procedure, which also lead to two life threatening perforated bowel complications. My surgeon Dr. Castanda and his medical team were amazing! It was the best medical care I have ever received. Now being home I can still only tolerate very small amounts of pureed food, diluted juices and water. I have lost 2 pounds in 22 days! And my family doctor was very happy with the medical advice, and care and instructions sent home with me. This procedure without a doubt has more medical risks, and life long dietary changes need to be made, but FOR ME, this was a step in my life towards a healthier me. All I could recommend is start making changes now, and do research. Even find your nearest support group and talk, talk, and talk to people!

This is not an accurate description of the BEADS program. It’s half right. Acai berry juice is not mentioned in the orientation. Eating two days of whole milk/yoghurt followed by two days of fruit/veggies between the hours of noon and 6 pm are. No vinegar as it disrupts the chemistry process in the gut. You burn fat exculsively, acoording to Schwarz, rther than muscle. (burning muscle during a ‘Starvation” diet is problematic, as muscle mass burns more calories than fat, plus losing muscle probably contributes to more loose skin. An old HS friend did this diet for 2 months and lost 40 pounds but she is also highly disciplined and has lost on another program many times. She is 7 months since weight loss and maintaining. To maintain, you eat a balanced diet 5 days a week and return to the milk diet two days (maybe the veggie/fruit is one of those, can’t remember. YOu can get the whole deal explained on the “mail” program online…google accu diet or accu weight loss. Based in NY —they now work online and it cost $175 for info kit and 1st 3 beads and placement directions (behind your ear) $50 for each additional B.E.A.D.– as it is a chemsitry based program rather than a calorie based program (resetting your set point is a key componennt — remember when you could eat what yu wanted and not gain? ) People who do regain seem to say it takes a long time to do so– and flagrant disregard for eating choices. This is what I got researching this diet over the past 2 days, after seeing and hearing about the remarkable results of trusted friend.

I just recieved my packet and will start Accu Weight Loss tomorrow morning. Check out their website for all the contact info – accuweightloss.com. or google “bead diet.” I recommend calling the Q&A person. She has lost 75 lbs by this method and kept it off for 4 1/2 years. She can answer any questions before you sign up. I have several friends who have lost up to 75 lbs. One is a diabetic. She lost all her weight and now is off all diabetic meds. Her doctor is very happy. She said she has never felt better.
One thing – there is nothing in the literature or by those on the diet that entails throwing up or drinking acai berry. So, I don’t know what that’s about.
Personalized counseling comes with the program. Also, access to a chat room with 50 to 100 emails a day – discussing the program amongst themselves. Very supportive. Reasonable price. Cannot cheat on the program – not even a little or no weight loss for that week. Chemically works very fast. I’ve seen my friends average about 25 lbs. a month. It’s very restrictive so it is not the diet for everyone. If you are serious about losing a lot of weight, check it out.

From what I can tell people the company has gone away. I would suggest calling your credit card companies or banks and telling them to refuse any further payments to the company.

I had the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in September 2006; I lost 60 lbs in 30 days. I never lost anymore significant weight after that. From 2006 to 2009 I had many significant health problems; including 3 strokes. After spending months in the hospital I gained back all my weight and more. The only reason I can think is that my medications at present (11 /plus 2 types of insulin)sinificantly changed my metabolism. I still can only eat about what I was able to eat after the intial Roux-en-Y. My insurance allows for a 2nd operation can the BPD/DS be done after the Roux-en-Y is done?
